A few things to do while you are in Mount Maunganui

Soak in the Mount Hotpools


Situated at the base of Mount Maunganui, the Mount Maunganui hotpools are your number one destination to close your eyes and relax as the warm ocean mists nourish your body and soul.

Walk Around the Mount


The base track of Mount Maunganui (Mauao) is 3.4 km loop around the mountain and takes about 45 minutes to complete.  The walk provides views of both Tauranga and Matakana Island and is a great viewing point for ships coming in and out of the harbour entrance. It is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs but we advise you to be cautious.

Play a Game of Golf


Head out for a day of golf at the Mt Maunganui Golf Course. After your game there is an opportunity to relax with a drink and enjoy, have a snack or meal from the cafe\' in the superbly designed clubhouse which gives a 180 degree view of the course from all lounges.

Treck Up the Mount


The summit of Mauao is 232m high and takes about 40 minutes to get to the top. The walk up is certainly a leg burner, however the 360 degree view from on top of the Mount is simply breathtaking and is a must do! We advise you to take water, sunscreen and a hat.

Visit the Papamoa Hills


The Papamoa Hills Regional Park (approx 15min drive from Mount Maunganui) contains a mixture of Maori pa sites, native forest and farmland. It offers outstanding views over the Bay of Plenty coastline. The main walk to the top of the trig station takes approximately 1 hour and is a steady incline for the majority of the journey.

Explore the Daisy Hardwick Track


The Daisy Hardwick Walkway is a popular walking and cycling track which loops around the edge of Tauranga\'s Waikareao Estuary. The 9km walk provides stunning scenery of wetlands, native trees and plants and takes approximately 2 hours to complete.

We would advise you make the most of this walk when the tide is high, as this offers the best views. The Daisy Hardwick can be enjoyed by those of all ages and fitness levels.

Entertain the Kids with Rock Climbing, Free Running and Glow in the Dark Miniput

The Rock House features, indoor rock climbing, a free running area and glow in the dark miniput! If you have kids then this is a must do!

View the Stunning Kaiate Falls


The beautiful Kaiate Falls, which is also known as Rerekaway Falls is roughly a 30 minute drive from Mount Maunganui. You can expect to be immersed within luscious trees and picturesque New Zealand scenery during your 40 minute hike. There are three different waterfalls to view within the trail, and as a combination they are represented as Te Rerekawau Falls. The horsetail fall is perhaps the most beautiful of the three standing at 15m high. Bare in mind, the walk can be relatively steep in some areas, so be prepared to get a little sweaty.

Stop in at Mclarens Falls


McLaren Falls Park is a 25-minute drive South of Mount Maunganui. The park comprises of 190 hectares of parkland alongside the beautiful Lake McLaren. McLaren Falls has a number of different walks, the most popular one being the ‘waterfall track’. The waterfall track is a 20-minute walk that extends along the side of a small stream before reaching the waterfall lookout. At night the glowworms light up the track and make for a stunning display.
